Gallery 6 Redevelopment-Migration Museum

Elaborating the notion of ‘Superdiversity’ this redevelopment of Gallery 6 provides an outlook on 21st Century immigration.
Mulloway worked with the Migration Museum’s curatorial team to re-think the existing space and provide a new way of presenting the stories and context of more recent migration. Within an extremely tight budget, and working with quite restrictive spatial layouts, the design solutions needed to be based on clever thinking.
The large central glass case was re-imagined as a ‘Superdiversity cube;’ an element that reflected the notion or an emotive response to ‘Superdiversity.’ A visually complex element employing plays on transparency and opacity, layering and linearity, and objects and abstraction, itself becomes a visually complex and engaging object.
A lietmotif of birds – silhouettes escaping from the cubed seats, a mix and match cube game and digital read-out element add diversity and surprise to the space and the experience.
