Reconciliation Room – Adelaide City Council

We have just completed concept designs for a reconciliation room in Adelaide City Council’s Town Hall building. Having been pleased to be commissioned for the project, we were excited to have the opportunity to contribute to the City Council’s reconciliation programme.

The concept proposes the conversion of a meeting room into an exhibition, meeting and information space. It also provides opportunities for Kaurna artworks, cross-cultural, collaborative artworks in a range of media, providing an immersive and interactive experience.

One of the key design parameters was the resolution of the exhibition space design with the existing architectural character and heritage of the room. The design takes necessary fixtures and fittings such as tables, screens, carpets and other elements and conceives of these as interpretive artworks. This allows the room to operate as a ‘normal’ meeting space and the overlay of interactive projection provides the immersive experience.
