Hawker War Memorial

Underway at Hawker is a new war memorial. We have, over the past few years been lucky enough to work on a handful of great projects in the Flinders Ranges. This being the centenary year of ANZAC, we have been involved in at least three projects related to that event. This memorial gave us the opportunity to explore further, some of the ideas we developed for the war memorials in Canberra a few years ago, albeit on a much more local scale. At its core, the project aims to highlight the relationship between the individual and place. In this case, the sense of place is defined by the backdrop of Wilpena Pound, and the design of the memorial as a simple platform provides an open contemplative place with a long-distance horizon view.
